PODS storage will charge your CC w/out approval!

Mar 24, 2008 PODS - Portable On Demand Storage complaint by Torque |
I would recommend staying away from using PODS, Portable On Demand Storage.
Seemed like the perfect option for us since we needed to move our household furnishings into storage for 3 weeks till our new home was ready to be moved in.
I called and ordered two of the large PODS and was told they'd charge our credit card (CC) twice... first for initial delivery and return to warehouse, then second for storage charge, delivery, and final pickup.
First they delivered two different sized PODS and threw a fit and wanted me to accept the smaller one and that they would credit me. I demanded they replace the small one with the large one since we NEEDED two large ones.
Then I see two charges on my CC for rope, moving blankets, and padlocks which we didn't ask for that they tried to leave in the first POD. We told the driver to take that stuff and that we didn't want it, yet they still charged our CC for it. The finally replaced the little POD with a large one and left a bunch of trash in it (barbells, trashcans, old suitcases, etc). Both delivery men were "Mr. Personality" with absolutely no people skills.
Multiple calls to PODS customer service and they only made things worse. Took charges off, then added them back on. At one point, we had been charged for about 36 moving blankets, 8 padlocks, and half a dozen bundles of rope. Our online invoice as over 20 entries/invoices long!
We thought we finally got it straightened out about the time they came to pick them up for final pickup (after we had unloaded our items at our new home, 3 weeks later), when we see they have charged us for another month's storage... like we had taken them back for more storage! I called and they refunded us that fee within about a week. Then 2 weeks later we receive invoices in the mail saying we owe them for ~$300 worth of charges that didn't even show up online... the online invoices showed we had a zero balance!
Again, I had to call and they said just ignore it, that it was some mix up. They also said that each location was a franchise and that they didn't have much control over them, so it was probably the local business that was causing all these problems.
Bottom line, check with folks near you to see if they have heard good/bad about PODS in your area. And if you're in the Fort Collins/Longmont/Boulder area, DO NOT USE PODS!!!

We have used PODS several times and never had any problems. They have been completely courteous and respectful at all times when making their deliveries. I would strongly recommend them over any mover or renting a truck.
